WES govt sends delegation to settle problem in Ezo County

The Western Equatoria state government has sent a team to Ezo County to assess the situation there and to try to find solutions, according to the state government spokesman.

Last week, thousands of civilians fled the Ezo when SPLA forces exchanged gunfire with some youths.

A county official said that the clashes erupted when SPLA forces pursued unknown groups of armed youths who had allegedly stolen food from a UN store.

Daniel Zingifuaboro, Western Equatoria State Information Minister confirmed to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that their team arrived to the county of Ezo where they will hold talks with military leaders, church leaders and community members to tell what happened exactly.

“Yes, I have received a call just a few minutes ago confirming their arrival to the County of Ezo and they have not yet started the work but said to meet the church leadership on Thursday,” said the minister.

After meeting the church the same team will hold separate meetings with SPLA force commander and local youths then finally the community for further understanding of the issue.

Meanwhile, the Ezo commissioner could not be reached to comment on the current situation in his county due to telephone network failure.

Separately, the UN Radio Miraya has reported that residents of Medeu village in Western Equatoria reported bombings on Tuesday killing up to 10 people. The army spokesman says that he will look into reports of the aerial bombardments.
