The Careteaker Governor of Western Equatoria Patrick Zamoi has visited Source Yubu in the far west of the state near Central Africa to meet with the army and civilians in an attempt to calm the situation after high tensions in the area.
Radio Miraya reported on Tuesday that calm has returned to Source Yubu in Western Equatoria State after clashes between soldiers and armed youth last week.
The state information minister Daniel Esbon Zingifauboro told the UN radio that people are gradually returning to their homes after the caretaker governor met with soldiers and armed youth in the area. He said both sides agreed not to return to violence.
“The governor traveled there the day before yesterday (Sunday). He was having a meeting with the people there and the army and the both of them have assured him that they will not continue with any incident that will cause insecurity and I think according to the information I have this morning the community is gradually returning back,” said the minister.
He further revealed that military commanders including the commander of Division 6 and also Brigade 6 are visiting Mundri West to broker dialogue between soldiers and civilians.
