The Wei-Deng Conference on peace in Jonglei State has closed after five days of deliberations.
The key event aimed at fostering unity and peace among communities, concluded on Tuesday. Diverse stakeholders came together to address pressing issues and promote understanding.
The State Information and Communication Minister, Nyamar Lony Thichiot Ngundeng, told Radio Tamazuj that the conference marked a milestone in the efforts to build bridges and promote harmony.
“This conference has been a crucial step forward in promoting understanding and harmony among our communities,” remarked the Minister.
“We addressed pressing issues such as cattle raiding, revenge killings and fostering better relations with neighboring communities.”
Ngundeng said one of the highlights of the conference was a visit to the historic Pyramid of Prophet Ngundeng Bong, where delegates commemorated the 13th anniversary of South Sudan’s independence.
He said initiatives like the Wei-Deng Conference were expected to play a crucial role in the Jonglei State’s efforts to strengthen social cohesion and lay the foundation for enduring peace.
The conference drew a high-level delegation led by the State Minister of Peace Building and included officials from various sectors. Representatives from the National Legislative Assembly, State Legislative Assembly, and commissioners from neighboring counties also participated.
