Unknown gunmen who attacked Lainya several hours before dawn on Monday managed to break into the village police station and take off with guns, according to residents of the area.
Residents staying near the police station located at Lainya Centre but who fled to the nearby areas at the time of the attack say the gunmen attacked the police station overrunning it and broke into the arms store before taking off with a number of guns.
Another resident who stays farther from the center confirmed to Radio Tamazuj that they heard gunshots at around 4:00 a.m.
“There were gunshots here in Lainya but I stay a little far from the center. My friends who stay at the center have already moved away. They are here with us now. Yes there were sounds of small guns that we hear now including sounds of big guns shot twice that I heard,” one resident said on the phone at around 5:00 a.m.
However, residents said the gunmen eventually moved away from the town. Efforts to reach government officials for comments were unsuccessful.
