An RPG rocket plus a number of guns including AK-47 were found in the house of an SPLA general in Hai Referendum in Juba on Sunday at about 4 p.m., according to a resident who lives in the area.

The son of the SPLA officer who was reportedly drunk started randomly shooting, which caused panic among residents of Hai Referendum. Arrested by the police, the man was released only to start shooting randomly again. Eight military vehicles full of armed soldiers rushed to Hai Referendum to contain the situation, according to witnesses.

The SPLA general who was away during the incident reportedly advised soldiers not to shoot or destroy his house but he gave orders that his son be arrested and if he resisted that he be shot.

In the end, no one was hurt, but residents questioned why the SPLA officer was keeping weapons and ammunition at his house. “How can you keep all these weapons in the house and not in barracks?” a resident from Hai Referendum complained.

The drunken man was later arrested. Last month another SPLA soldier killed nearly five people plus himself at the house an SPLA general elsewhere in Juba.
