Western Bahr al Ghazal’s Islamic Council in South Sudan has announced that this year’s pilgrimage to Mecca of Saudi Arabia for the South Sudanese Muslim community is cancelled owing to high living conditions in the state.
Rabah Abdul-Rahman Sumit, a manager at the Hajj and Umrah Council in the state, said they did not register pilgrims this year due to high fees for the Hajj.
He revealed that the pilgrimage this season costs 16,000 South Sudanese pounds, saying that Western Bahr al Ghazal accommodates the largest number of Muslims in South Sudan.
Rabah called upon people of good will to help Muslims to perform the Hajj and join hands for the success of Islamic activities in the state.
