WBG commerce chamber reports duplication of tax collection

The chamber of commerce in South Sudan's Western Bahr al Ghazal State has advised traders not to pay taxes to state and national governments at the same time.

According to the law, any trader whose capital is less than 100,000 SSP should pay taxes to the state authorities, while a trader whose capital is over 100,000 should pay to the national government, Head of the Chamber Wol Charles told Radio Tamazuj.

The state official deplored the duplication of tax collection by the state and national authorities.

“So I urge the traders not to pay twice until the problem is solved by the relevant authorities,” he said.

Adel Raziq Dahiya, Director of the National Taxes in the State, previously admitted in an interview with Radio Tamazuj that they were duplicating tax collection.

He explained that the annual business profits tax should go to the national government according to the law.
