A number of young people in South Sudan’s Wau town have expressed discontent over the recent order issued by the mayor of Wau town banning night clubs in the town, saying the town authorities should provide them with an alternative.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj in Wau town on Monday, a group of youth argued that the night clubs have contributed positively in improving security within the town, as it attracts many young people and they could safely move at night.

Others said the night clubs have encouraged some youths to return home from the internally displaced people camps where they have been seeking shelter since clashes erupted there and insecurity became rampant. They further said the government should come up with an alternative for the youth to keep them busy.

Wau State Governor Angelo Taban Biajo announced that they had arrested some owners of the night clubs in the town last week, prompting the order.
