Medical workers and other support staff at Wau Teaching Hospital in South Sudan’s Wau State have resumed night duties on 23 December after three months since fighting erupted in the area in June this year.

Mabor Michael, Director of Outpatient Department, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that they started to work at night to save lives during Christmas holidays.

“On 23 December, the administration decided to resume night shifts, because during Christmas celebrations, there are accidents during night hours, so we have started to work,” said Michael.

He added that night duties require more medical cadres and support for better services delivery. Michael pointed out that security situation is calm and that doctors are determined to work at any time.

“We have about 15 soldiers, so we don’t have any problem with the issue of security, we also solar electric system in our hospital when our generation goes off,” he said.

The doctor called on Wau citizens to take their patients to the health facility at any time.
