Lack of doctors and specialized personnel at Wau Teaching Hospital is a major challenge that requires intervention from authorities, the hospital’s medical director said.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Edmond Ramadan said the hospital urgently needs solutions to address the problems it is facing.
He cited lack of medical doctors, low salaries, lack of electricity and the poor environment as some of the challenges the hospital faces.
The medical director said a government team led by the deputy state governor, Zachariah Joseph Garang visited the hospital on Monday.
On her part, Wau town mayor, Elizabeth Mario Masama said the team’s aim was to find solutions to some of the hospital’s problems.
“The aim of our visit was to see how we can improve the condition of doctors with their accommodation and the issue of hospital mortuary for dead bodies,” Masama said.
She added, “We want to increase electricity power in the hospital at day time and during the night hours for better services. On the issue of doctors, government is working hard in collaboration with the national health ministry to bring more doctors”.
