The Mayor of Wau town, Mel Aleu Goc, said they have received more security forces from Juba at the request of the state government after the recent violence in the town.
Mel told Radio Tamazuj on Sunday that the state government has already sent more security forces to provide security in the town.
He claimed that the security situation returned to normal. “We had requested additional forces. We have deployed the forces to different areas in the town,” said Mel.
In early April, eyewitnesses reported that government-aligned militia targeted local residents based on their ethnicity in residential areas during the latest upsurge in fighting in Wau town.
The killing of civilians in Wau town followed the ambush and killing of the SPLA soldiers by suspected opposition fighters.
