Wau’s rate of new HIV/AIDs infections has risen steadily among the youth over the past three months, a government official said.

Bina Paul Joseph, Wau State’s HIV/AIDs Commissioner, told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that 12 new cases were recorded in April, 15 in May and 46 in June.

Joseph attributed the increase to the deteriorating economic situation and an increase in rape cases within the communities.
