Wau police record cases of suicide, gunshot wound

The police in Wau, Western Bahr el Ghazal State on Wednesday, said they recorded a case of suicide and another of the shooting and wounding of a minor at the home of a police officer last weekend.

According to the state’s police spokesperson, Major Santino Udol, the shooting incident involved a 14-year-old boy who was wounded in the leg. He however did not explain the motive and details of the shooting but said a police patrol unit intervened on the scene.

“The boy was shot and his leg was broken by the bullet,” he explained. “He is the son of someone only identified as Mayen. Night patrol officers managed to control the situation.”

He said the family of the deceased person who committed suicide, whose name has been withheld, did not report the case to police and that there was no suicide note.

“The incident of the suicide happened but no relative opened a case at the police so that we can investigate it,” Maj. Udol stated. “The motive of the suicide is not known because the deceased did not leave a note, making it difficult for us to investigate it.”

He however said that the police are investigating both cases and will provide updates to the parents of the victims.
