The police in Western Bahr el Ghazal State have dispelled rumors that the bodyguard of the state governor who died over the weekend was poisoned.

The police in Western Bahr el Ghazal State have dispelled rumors that the bodyguard of the state governor who died over the weekend was poisoned.

Ujina Eshak Ibrahim, the special cook who also doubled as a close bodyguard to the state governor Sarah Cleto, was found dead in her bedroom in the Lokoloko residential area in Wau town.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Wednesday, the Western Bahr el Ghazal police commissioner, Major General Samuel Ajuong Chwar, said, “I want to tell you what had happened, and I was with the governor, that the deceased is called Ujina Eshak Ibrahim and she worked at the statehouse. She was sick and died in her house. She died a normal death on 26 June in her house in Lokoloko.” 

He cautioned people against spreading rumors.

For his part, John Robo Hassan, a relative to the deceased, said the body of his sister, Ujina Eshak Ibrahim, was found lying dead on her bed in the morning.

“According to the information that I obtained, she also stays together with my boys, they told me that they ate food together with her and two visitors who came to her in the evening. After eating, they went into the room to sleep. The deceased knew the visitors but the children did not know them,” he said.

According to Robo, the body was taken for an autopsy and no foul play was found. 

However, a source in Wau hospital who preferred anonymity confirmed to Radio Tamazuj that the body of the deceased was not taken to the hospital and that they cannot comment on the issue.
