Eight alleged gang members have been arrested in connection with two rape cases that took place last week, according to Wau Mayor Arkangelo Anyar Anyar.

A 29-year-old woman died after being allegedly gang-raped by seven men on Wednesday. And a 14-year-old girl was also found dead after reportedly being gang-raped on Thursday.

More than 100 rape cases have been recorded at police stations in Wau from October until early November, according to Police Commissioner Abraham Manuat.

Anyar Anyar said police are investigating members of a local group, known as the Niggers. The municipal official who is tasked with following up on the acts said the arrests followed new information they received on the hideout of the group.

Officials said they hope the crackdown against the group will bring an end to the rape crisis in the town.
