Members of parliament in Wau State on Thursday summoned the acting governor, Anthony Charles Nberende to provide briefing on what happened in Wau town, where dozens of civilians have been killed and several others wounded in armed clashes.
Speaking to the press in Wau town, the acting governor said unknown gunmen killed dozens of civilians in an attack earlier this week.
Nberende pointed out that that his government has advised all families of the victims to open a case with the police against unidentified suspects.
For his part, Santo Domic, the SPLA deputy military spokesperson, claimed that the situation in Wau town returned to normal since Wednesday.
Eyewitnesses reported that government-aligned militia targeted local residents based on their ethnicity in residential areas during the latest upsurge in fighting in Wau town.
