The mayor of Western Bahr el Ghazal state capital Wau, Elia Kamilo Demo, says high prices in the town’s market are due to recent floating of the exchange rate of the South Sudanese Pound against the US dollar.

Demo said in an interview with Radio Tamazuj yesterday that goods are available in the market but prices are especially high as Christmas approaches.

Other sources in Wau told radio Tamazuj that the dollar rate has started to drop there from 21 SSP to the dollar to 19 in recent days.
