Livio Bahara, mayor of Wau town in South Sudan’s Western Bahr al Ghazal has vowed to curb criminal activities being committed by members of gangs known locally as “niggers”.
Police authorities earlier announced that over 100 rape cases had been recorded at police stations in Wau town from October until early November.
In an interview with Radio Tamazuj, Bahara revealed a security plan to fight the so-called ‘niggers’ groups that he said are causing instability in the area.
The newly appointed mayor also promised to organize the market and open up internal roads, besides collection of local revenues in order to implement municipal projects.
Livio attributed high prices of essential commodities in the town to earlier shortages of fuel. But he reassured that the problem is solved and that the fuel is currently available at oil stations.
The official also called upon Wau citizens to embark on work instead of drinking alcohol.
