Wau govt denounces statement issued to encourage tribal differences

The government of South Sudan’s proposed Wau state denounced a statement issued by a group calling themselves Greater Bahr el Ghazal youth in Wau town on Monday. The statement had callled for all citizens from Equatoria region in Wau to leave the state.

The statement was published on the wall of several non-governmental organizations in Wau and accused sons of Equatoria region working in UN agencies and NGOs of supporting the armed groups that are fighting the government in Juba.

In a press conference in Wau, Bona Gudnisio, state minister of information said the government is taking the statement as serious and threat to the national security and the security of the citizens, adding that they have security arrangements to deal with it.

He strongly criticized the group and stressed that the government will follow the group and bring them to justice for inciting hate among the people.

“I assure the sons of Equatoria region to feel at home. You are in your country and under the protection of the authorities. We are able to fight anything that will lead to differences among the people of South Sudan and cause insecurity in the country,” said Bona.

The minister also assured the people from Equatoria region in Wau that the government will provide security to all the citizens of South Sudan in Wau.

In a similar development, another group in Aweil town of Northern Bahr el Ghazal state threatened in a statement people from Equatoria region, forcing several NGOs to evacuate their staff from the state.
