Andrea Mayar Achor, governor of Wau state has issued an order removing his deputy, barley six months after the assignment

Governor Mayar, according to an order which became public on Wednesday, January 11th, 2017, removed Pasquale Joseph Ayan from the position of the deputy governor.

The order did not provide an explanation for changes, neither it give the former official another assignment. The post was also not immediatye filled and it remains unclear when the new official would be named.  Local officials and legislators attributed the changes to pressure from a group of politicians from the area of the former official who expressed a different view about who should have been appointed to the post if they were consulted prior to the appointment.

The group, according to multiple sources with direct knowledge of local politics, preferred Anthony Charles Ngberende, who turned down the appointment as Bazilia county commissioner. He refused to take oath of office and never visited the area. The area remained without a county commissioner until he was relieved from the position in December 2016.
