Andrea Mayar, governor of Wau State, one of the 28 controversial new state governments created by President Salva Kiir, says his government plans to meet armed groups that are fighting against the government in an attempt to find an amicable solution and bring about peace in the state.
Addressing worshipers at a Catholic Church in Wau town, Mayar announced that a committee comprising of religious leaders, intellectuals and chiefs would be set up in order to meet with the armed groups in consultation with the national government in Juba.
He pointed out that he also advised the national fact-finding committee formed to investigate the Wau incident recently to initiate a dialogue with rebels in an attempt to bring an end to hostilities in the state.
The state official stressed that the only way to end violence is dialogue. However, he said they are still waiting for approval from the presidency.
