The governor of South Sudan’s Wau State Elias Waya has accused elements inside the security organs of not cooperating with his government.
Waya called for pushing out those elements who are trying to obstruct the peace process in the country.
He made these remarks during a visit to Bagari, the headquarters of Wau County, which is located about 30 kilometers from the town.
He said in statement to press that his visit was successful and aimed at handing the county administration over to the new Commissioner Anthony Pada to help the citizens who suffered from the clashes between government and opposition forces in the area.
Waya criticized the Dawn newspaper for publishing a story about an alleged plan from opposition forces in Angu Angu to attack Wau town. He said this is misleading to the public at a time the country is witnessing peace following the return of the former rebel leader Riek Machar.
Dawn newspaper is financially backed by South Sudan’s National Security Service, according to a media source in Juba.
Wau State is one of 28 states created by President Salva Kiir by decree but challenged as unconstitutional by a coalition of opposition parties because the country’s constitution specifies that there are only ten states in South Sudan.
Monitors of the peace agreement have called the creation of the 28 states a “violation” of the peace agreement. Salva Kiir says the 28 states are the demand of the people.
