Wau citizens call for implementation of peace deal

Citizens in Besselia payam in Wau County of South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal State have called on President Salva Kiir and SPLA-IO leader Riek Machar to implement the recently signed peace agreement.

This comes during a briefing to local residents by a women's development association on the peace agreement signed by the two warring parties in South Sudan. About 175 citizens reportedly participated in the briefing.

Abraham Albino, a local leader, said the agreement signed by the two leaders is important because it aims to stop the civil war.

Abraham advised President Kiir and rebel leader Machar to build trust to ensure a bright future for the people of South Sudan and work for the reconciliation among the war-affected people.

The local leader added that the two principles should meditate on the destruction and devastation caused by the war in South Sudan besides the massive displacement of a large number of people.

Wau County have witnessed insecurity after the government announced the emergence of rebellion loyal to Riek Machar in the area.
