A Catholic Church leader in Wau town in South Sudan’s Wau State has accused SPLA troops of demolishing a church and tearing up the Bible in Busseri area in the southwest of Wau town.

Bishop Arkangelo Louis said during his sermon on Sunday at St. Mary’s Cathedral Church in Wau town that the SPLA soldiers destroyed the Busseri Church and tore the Bible during clashes with rebels in Busseri area last month.

“A vehicle carrying soldiers went and destroyed everything. The soldiers even took the clothes of the religious leaders, if the fighting is between us, we should not touch holy things, “said Arkangelo.

He pointed out that the move shows that people don’t believe in God, while calling on all organized forces to respect places of worship even if they are located in rebel-controlled areas.

Radio Tamazuj couldn’t reach government officials in the area to comment on the matter.
