Authorities of Wau Municipality in South Sudan's Wau State have on Monday started the demolition of a temporary market established around the UN Protection of Civilian Site POC in Wau.
Wau Town Mayor Hassan Ngor Aguer told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that the market has increased crime rates and also hosts criminal gangs and rebel groups.
“We managed to recover stolen goods in this market and it is difficult to control it. That is why we decided to demolish it,” he said.
Ngor added that the market was illegally established and does not meet the security standards as it lacks a police station.
