Wau authorities appoint chiefs to regulate herders' migration

Local authorities in Wau County in South Sudan’s Western Bahr al Ghazal State last Wednesday appointed 11 local chiefs in administrative units in the County.

Wau County Commissioner Elia Kamilo Dimo told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that about 11 chiefs were appointed in roder to resolve problems that arise in all admistratives units of the county.

He said the decision also coincided with the reactivation of follow-up committees on the legalization of grazing and cattle movement in the area.

He said the proliferation of arms in the hands of herders who cross from neighbouring Warrap state was addressed and it was banned during the Buseri meeting.

“The local chiefs should be informed first before the Warrap pastoralists come to the area so that paths and corridors are determined by the chiefs,” he stressed.

However, Kamilo said some herders will break the law despite what was agreed upon.

Since the appointments, chief Angelo Bagari has been murdered with his wife.
