South Sudanese refugees who have recently been relocated to Unity camp in Jebel Aulia on the outskirts of the Sudanese capital Khartoum report a shortage of water and other services.

Camp leader Sika Hussein told Radio Tamazuj that the refugees were experiencing the shortage of water. He accused the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) of failing to provide them with water. The camp leader also complained about lack of schools for their children in the new camp.

“We have problem of water. We run out of water for two to three days sometimes, so when we asked them they tell us there is fuel crisis,” he said.

He pointed out also that a large number of students are living in the camp without schooling. “We were told that there are schools already built in the new camp, but when we arrived we found not a single school built here,” he explained.

Radio Tamazuj reported earlier that citizens in various residential areas in Khartoum reported water shortages since almost two months ago, with complaints that they needed to fetch water by tankers.

Shortages were reported in Halfaya, Kalakal, Al Azhari, Salama and Ed Hussein areas, besides other areas in Omdurman.
