Water bottling companies shut down over dollar shortage in Wau

Three factories bottling mineral water have halted production because of a scarcity of dollars and shortage of fuel to run their businesses in Wau town in South Sudan’s Western Bahr al Ghazal State, local sources told Radio Tamazuj.

The management of Viva, a water bottling company operating in Wau town, confirmed that they shut down operations in the area. The same sources rising high prices of a 750 ml bottle of water from 2 SSP to 3-4 SSP in some shops in Wau.

Manager of the Ozarka Factory for Mineral Water, Adam Abdullah Abdul-Rahman, said they too halted operation for more than three days due to high prices of gasoline and scarcity of hard currency and its high prices at the black market.

Adam pointed out that the halt caused his financial losses, saying the factory may resume operation if the Chamber of Commerce allows increases to the sales price per bottle of water in the area.
