Members of various Warrap youth groups convened a meeting on Sunday evening in Juba to voice their disappointment over the extension of the term of the Governor Nyandeng Malik and calling on President Kiir to remove her.

Simon Machuar, chairman of the SPLM Student League said the extension of the governor’s term in office does not reflect the will of the majority of Warrap people.

“In Warrap State Governor Nyandeng Malik went and extended her period by bribing some of the MPs and intimidating some citizens to vote for her. So we protested on 17th and 18th in Kwajok town. After we were intimidated we come back to Juba here and we want to put our position to the people across the country that Warrap State government extension is what we do not need,” Machuar said.

Machuar added, “We are now trying to sensitize the people that we are all dying and the government is working unconstitutionally and is not working with the party SPLM hence we are urging all the public that Nyandeng has to be removed by the president so that Warrap State will become peaceful.”

The youth leader said that the people are “fed up” with the governor and he questioned her legitimacy saying, “from today onwards there is no longer any governor of Warrap State.” Machuar said she has no legitimate right to stand before the people of Warrap.

Madit Malek, chairman of the National Youth Dialogue Forum, said likewise that the youth of Warrap have dismissed the governor’s extension because she has not accomplished much during her time in office.

“What will she do in three years? We are not ready to tolerate her in our state for three years more. We are not happy with her administration. Her administration has been causing insecurity in the state,” Malek said

The youth leader further accused the governor of changing the voting system in parliament from secret ballot to counting heads using bodyguards to enter the assembly hall to intimidate MPs to vote for her.
