Warrap State government has received trucks of essential food commodities to help stabilize the prices in the market.
The State Minister for Information, William Wol, told Radio Tamazuj Saturday that the supplies were part of Governor Kuol Muor Muor’s initiative to distribute supplies to six counties to help lower the food prices.
Local populations have been devastated by the high price of food commodities in the recent past.
Wol pointed out that the food was delivered by the contracted GALDA Co. Ltd that purchased over 10,000 varieties.
“They are the first consignment of the assorted food items, mainly maize flour of 50kg and sorghum of 50kg. They have been purchased by GALDA Company Limited, contracted by the state government to subsidize the Kuajok market and six counties of Warrap State,” said Wol.
He disclosed that the food items arrived at the government warehouse and Garang Aluel Garang launched the sale of the sorghum and maize flour on behalf of Governor Muor.
Wol said there would be no cheating in buying the food because committees were formed in the counties and at the state level by the governor to monitor the sale.
He disclosed that each county had been allocated 1,000 bags, while the Kuajok municipality and the Warrap State workers’ union received 3,000 bags.
“The price of 50kg of sorghum is SSP70,000 and maize flour is SSP90,000. The current market price of maize flour ranges between SSP130,000 and SSP120,000 depending on the dollar exchange rate,” he added.
Wol said that those unable to afford an entire bag would be allowed to purchase in lower quantities.
He appealed for honesty from the purchasers and admonished them not to buy the food for commercial purposes.
