Warrap state MP 'confident' Kiir will remove Governor Nyandeng

A member of the Warrap state legislature said he is 'confident' President Salva Kiir will eventually remove Governor Nyandeng Malek amid renewed complaints about her leadership from youth leaders in the state.

General (ret.) Bona Bhang Dhol, who hails from Kiir's home payam of Akon in Warrap, said the president has been made aware of citizens' complaints about Governor Nyandeng in a recent meeting with local stakeholders.

The citizens expressed their concerns over the governor's leadership, citing corruption, incompetence, and poor service delivery.

“Everything has its own time," Bona said. "He knows all those issues and I am confident that he will address them when appropriate time comes."

“There is no reason to be cynical and pessimistic about changes because changes are always normal administrative matters. That is why we have had many governors serving and leaving. From 2005, Warrap had seen about three or four governors. So, let people be hopeful," he added.

Meanwhile, a group of Warrap youth said they will continue trying to remove Nyandeng from office following months of discontent with her tenure. In a press statement, a group calling itself the Patriotic Youth of Warrap State said they were awaiting Kiir's reply to their complaints about the governor.

The group underscored "unwavering support" for Kiir, despite him having "not given much and swift attention to issues of their concerns, particularly the issue of hunger, insecurity, corruption in Warrap state and deliberate failure to deliver service by the government of Governor Nyandeng Malek," the statement said.
