The governor of South Sudan’s Warrap State, Gen. Aleu Ayieny, on Wednesday relieved the minister of local government, the head of the Justice and Employee Commission, and a member of the state legislative assembly from their positions.
Since the appointment of state ministers as per the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement, this is the third minister in the Warrap State ministry of local government and law enforcement agencies.
Paduol Mangong Paduol was the first to be appointed but his tenure was short-lived and was replaced by the now-relieved Anei Arop.
In a decree read on the national broadcaster, South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), Gen. Ayieny relieved Anei Arop Agany and replaced him with William Deng Koor as the new minister of local government and law enforcement agencies.
The decree also relieved William Deng Koor from the Justice and Employee Commission and Madut Akucpiir Madut as Member of Parliament and replaced them with Arop Arop Akol and Madit Mawien respectively.
The Warrap State minister of information and communication, William Wol Mayom, confirmed the changes and told Radio Tamazuj on Friday morning that the changes affected officials nominated by the opposition SPLM-IO and he did not know what informed the decision.
“The relieved officials are Hon. William Deng Koor from the Justice and Employee commission and he replaced Anei Arop who was the minister of local government,” he explained. “William Deng, the new local government minister was relieved as head of the commission and was replaced by Arop Arop while Madut Akucpiir was replaced in the parliament by Madit Mawien.”
Meanwhile, the newly appointed minister of local government, William Deng Koor, expressed gratitude for the appointment and pledged to implement the Local Government Act.
“It looks great because one is promoted because of his or her good work. Pertaining my first position at the Justice and Employee Commission, it had combined laws and I was following the Labor Act 2017, People Governance Act, and other laws,” he said. “But in local government, the laws are very clear and I will apply what is in the Act.”
