Lady luck smiled upon 44-year-old female motorcyclist and restaurateur, Awein Agany Wek, on Tuesday when she met Governor Alieu Ayieny Alieu on the road while riding from Gogrial to her village after purchasing items for her business.
The impressed governor who was on an official tour of Alek Payam instantly gifted Awein SSP 100,000.
Awein, who said she is the first of her husband’s ten wives told Radio Tamazuj Wednesday that she owns a restaurant in Mayom Payam of Warrap State.
“My husband has 10 wives and I am the first wife. I allowed my husband to marry those young women and when I get something little, It helps us all and we share it equally,” she said. “I met with the governor of Warrap State, Alieu Ayieny when I was riding a motorcycle from Gogrial to Mayom and he gave me 100,000 SSP.”
“I met with the governor on the main road while riding my motorcycle loaded with food items which I was transporting from Gogrial to Mayom,” she added.
Awein says she has now been riding for two years and added that she first opened a restaurant in Gogrial town but moved her business to Mayom Payam in July.
“I transport my food items from Gogrial to my restaurant in Mayom and I even occasionally ride my motorbike from Warrap State to Aweil in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State,” she said.
“When I met the governor on the road yesterday (Tuesday) he asked me who told me to ride a motorcycle but I told him that this is my work because my children are in school and they have no one to support them,” she revealed. “And also, I work in a restaurant when I send someone, they bring fewer items, delay or even disappear at times. So. That is the reason why I bought myself a motorcycle.”
Awein said she bought her motorcycle in Wau at SSP 460,000.
“I have nothing to do because I have children in school who need money for their education, feeding, and treatment,” she said. “I have 5 boys and 3 girls that are in the school. One of my sons is for studies in Madrid and will finish in June next year.”
Awein said she was riding back from Gogrial to Mayom Payam when she suddenly met Governor Alieu Ayieny.
“I went to Gogrial in the morning and when I was returning back to Mayom, I met with the governor’s convoy and when they saw me, they stopped and I also stopped in the middle of the road,” she said.
