At least two people were killed and three others wounded by armed youths in Wunrok Payam of Twic County, Warrap State on Sunday, local officials said.
Ayei Deng Malek, the Wunrock Payam Administrator, told Radio Tamazuj that armed youths from within Twic County attempted to raid cattle owned by an individual from Abyei kept by a friend in Warapech village in Wunrok.
“A person from the Twic community organized to take cattle that belonged to an individual from the Dinka Ngok kept by a friend in Warapech village in Twic County. The youth who were keeping cattle resisted and fighting took place at 5:30 am this (Sunday) morning,” he explained. “One of the attackers, Malook Machar, was killed and Makol Adiang was killed by attackers in the cattle camp.”
He added: “Three persons, including a spear master, were seriously wounded. Ayuel Thon Chier, the spear master was shot in the stomach and legs, Longar Deng Ayuel was wounded too and another person sustained serious wounds.”
Meanwhile, Joseph Taban Agany, the Twic County executive director who is momentarily acting as the commissioner, confirmed the incident and said the security situation was stable and that the criminals were being pursued by security forces.
“These armed youth are mixed from Twic, Tonj, and Gogrial because one person who was killed was from the Luach section and the reason was that they wanted to raid cattle that belong to a Ngok person but kept by a person from Twic,” he said.
Agany said the raiders did not succeed in taking the cattle.
“They ran away and the security personnel are now pursuing them. I have just confirmed that the three wounded people are being treated in Turalei hospital,” he said. “There are no other reports of insecurity across the county and security is normal,” he said.
