The government of South Sudan’s Warrap State has set up a special criminal court earlier this week to handle cases of instigators of inter-communal clashes between Gogrial East and West Counties in the State.
Akech Tong Aleu, deputy state governor, confirmed to Radio Tamazuj that his government established the court in order to adjudicate cases related to the recent fighting between the two counties.
He further said the court comprises of five chiefs and a judge from the high court. Aleu pointed out that about 35 people wounded in the fighting are now receiving treatment in a hospital.
“Yes, we have arrested the people directly involved in the incident. They are now in the hospital under the supervision of police,” he said.
The state official indicated that the wounded people will be taken to court as they were involved in the fighting. However, he said that they have not yet known the number of people killed in the recent incident.
“A team has been sent to know the number of the people killed in the recent incident because we don’t want to say something which is not confirmed,” he said.
