Warrap poll agency office ‘almost ready’

The Warrap High-Level Electoral Committee has announced that its office construction has reached the roofing stage, after operating for nearly two years without a permanent base.

Helen John, a senior member of the committee, told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that the team continues to operate outside the office but remains hopeful the building will be completed before the end of this year.

“Our office is located in Angui, in the southern part of Kuajok town. It is several miles from the town centre and was established last year. We are still operating outdoors but have managed, with limited resources, to complete the fence, lay the foundation, and finish the main construction,” she said.

“What remains is the roofing. We have received some funds from the National Elections Commission and a commitment from UNMISS under its Quick Impact Project (QIP) to provide equipment and solar power once the remaining work is completed,” she added.

The election, initially scheduled for an earlier date, has been postponed to December 2026. The Warrap Committee has pledged to complete its preparations in time for the poll.

However, the committee faces several challenges, including limited mobility to counties, poor road infrastructure, and low public awareness of electoral processes.

Internet connectivity issues have also hampered operations, often causing delays in reporting.
