Warrap parliament not in hurry to implement 28 states: speaker

The speaker of the Warrap state legislative assembly says lawmakers are not in a hurry to implement the presidential Establishment Order expanding the constitutionally recognized 10 states into 28 new states.

The speaker of the Warrap state legislative assembly says lawmakers are not in a hurry to implement the presidential Establishment Order expanding the constitutionally recognized 10 states into 28 new states.

Kiir proposed on 2 October that his native state Warrap be divided into Twic State, Gogrial State and Tonj State.

Warrap Assembly Speaker Moses Madot Dut Deng has announced his support for the plan saying it was an answer to the popular demand of the people of South Sudan for a federal system.

But he says the plan has not yet been passed into law.

“We welcomed as the leadership of state assembly on behalf of the people of Warrap the presidential establishment order and the amendment of the constitution,” he said in an interview when asked how he feels about the plan.

Madot added the state members of parliament have not started public sensitization in their constituencies because the issue yet has not been passed into law by the council of states.

“The members are not in a hurry but they are ready to go for sensitization of the public in their constituencies once it has been passed into law by the council of states,” said Madot.
