Warrap MPs call for removal of Twic commissioner

Warrap State’s Legislative Assembly voted Tuesday to recommend that Governor Nyandeng Malek remove Twic County Commissioner Biar Biar after summoning him over illegal taxation claims and other charges.

Biar Biar Riing was appointed to his position in September 2013 by Governor Nyandeng Malek after the governor sacked commissioner Malek Riing Mathiang.

Warrap State Assembly Speaker Moses Madot told Radio Tamazuj that the MPs in their sitting today decided to refer the commissioner’s case to the state governor so that he can be removed. He further said about 10 lawmakers representing Twic County in the state assembly passed a vote of no confidence against the Commissioner Biar Biar.

"The assembly has just written a letter to the governor to remove the current commissioner and appoint a new one. So that’s the decision that was taken today," he said.

He pointed out that the commissioner failed to answer some of the questions asked by the parliamentarians during today’s sitting. The speaker revealed that the assembly found out that the commissioner has been carrying out government activities without involving county councillors.

"We found out that the commissioner has been working alone without any coordination with members of the County Legislative Council, so they were supposed to work together and pass laws that regulate the provision of services in the area," he explained.

However, the MP declined to mention the other allegations levelled against the commissioner, saying all the accusations were included in the letter sent to the governor.
