“The individual who entered the offices has been identified as Chol Ngor from Twic County in Warrap State. He gained unauthorized access and deliberately damaged the office windows,” Mayom stated.

While it has been confirmed that the offices of the governor and cabinet affairs minister were not affected, William Mayom Wol admitted that the offices of other staff members were impacted, and some furniture was destroyed.

“The police are currently investigating the circumstances that led to this incident. Preliminary indications suggest that the accused may be experiencing mental health issues. His behavior was abnormal and he appeared unwell. The offices of the governor and cabinet affairs minister remain intact. The accused solely targeted the windows of the Secretary General’s office, the clerk’s office, and the Office Manager of the Minister of Cabinet Affairs,” Mayom clarified.

Acting police commissioner for Warrap state, Major General Ayol Atiep, confirmed the incident and stated that the police investigation is ongoing.

“During regular working hours, an individual took advantage of the absence of officials and entered the Secretariat building. He intentionally damaged office windows, including those in the executive director’s office and the deputy governor’s office. We have arrested the suspect, and there are indications that he may be mentally unstable. We are currently gathering more information from the suspect,” Major General Ayol explained.

He further added, “The individual acted alone and took refuge within the offices. There were no other accomplices present since the offices were unoccupied at the time. Some senior government officials were attending the celebration of President Salva Kiir’s nomination as a presidential candidate in Wau, Western Bahr El Ghazal. The motive behind the destructive actions is still unknown.”
