South Sudan’s Warrap State government has engaged its county commissioners in a three-day forum to improve revenue collection and challenges of the local government structures.

The forum which commenced on Monday came to a close on Wednesday.

Santino Amuol, the commissioner of the state revenue authority said there is a need for cooperation with the county commissioner in revenue collection.

He said a total of SSP 39 million and USD 100,000 was collected by the state government within two months.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Tonj East County Commissioner John Deng Kok said, “I would like to say the three days forum discussed issues about revenue collection and understanding of the Local Government Act which is the great challenge facing commissioners.”

He added, “The outcome was good. We will work together and wait for the ministry of local government committee to reorganize local courts and chiefs and we will cooperate with revenue authority in our respective counties.”

Warrap State acting governor Deborah Oduel Okeck, urged the commissioners and revenue authority to foster a good working environment.

“We want to keep this spirit of working together and because we have discussed all challenges, we can now move forward and it shouldn’t end here in after every three months, we will be conducting the same forum to update ourselves,” she said.
