Warrap governors say division of state assets a slow process

The appointed governors of Tonj, Gogrial, and Twic which comprise South Sudan’s Warrap have been meeting in Kuacjok town since Monday regarding distribution of state assets and and human resources between them.

Appointed Tonj governor Akec Tong Aleu said the process has been slow because some state assets have gone missing while other assets have not been identified.

“Others are reported to have been written off but there are no records showing they were written off or indicating they have lost their value,” he explained.

Akec, who was the caretaker governor of Warrap state before President Salva Kiir divided South Sudan into 28 states, added that they are still discussing how to distribute fixed assets by assessing monetary value of each asset, which they would in turn divide into three portions.

Akec said he hopes the division exercise would be peaceful, and implored the future legislatures of new states to “work for peace, stability and the development of the country.”
