The governor of Warrap State, Francis Marial Abur, over the weekend, told the people of Twic County that development can only be achieved when people live in peace and harmony among themselves and with their neighbors.

Speaking during a security and peace rally at the Twic County headquarters in Turalei on Friday, Marial urged the people to observe the presidential order to cease hostilities at the border of Twic and Abyei.

Twic County Commissioner Adhar Akok said the governor urges people of his county to embrace peace among themselves and with neighboring areas to enhance development.

“The coming of the governor was very good because he came purposely to assess the security and humanitarian situation in the county,” he stated. “He came on Thursday and conducted a peace and security rally on Friday in Turalei, Mayen Abun on Saturday, and on Sunday in Wunrock Payam.”

Akok added that the governor listened to the communities’ demands and promised to address their challenges and concerns. The governor also ordered the removal of illegal checkpoints as per the president’s directives.

“Apart from his peace tour, Governor Francis Marial dismantled illegal checkpoints and during his meeting with communities of Twic County, the community raised their concerns about the stabilization of security to bring peace and harmony,” he said. “The second issue was the withdrawal of South Sudan Defense Forces (SSPDF) who were randomly deployed in areas of Twic County but not following the designated plan of SSPDF Headquarters. These soldiers sometimes cause havoc in the community, some of them took wives of Twic residents.”

The commissioner said the community thanked the governor and asked him to investigate the killing of sons and daughters of Twic in the territory of Abyei.

Meanwhile, William Wol Mayom, the spokesperson of the Warrap State Government, said peace and security are priority areas for the governor and his administration.

“Governor Marial Abur left for Twic County on 2 January 2025 and he spent days conducting peace rallies in the towns in the county, he said. “He commenced the peace and security rallies in Turalei, the headquarters of Twic County on Friday where he delivered a message of peace among Twic inhabitants and their neighbors. He was also concerned about the issue of illegal checkpoints that have created market inflation.”
