Warrap State governor Manhiem Bol Malek on Thursday held a peace meeting with the Twic community at Wunrok Payam.

Warrap State governor Manhiem Bol Malek on Thursday held a peace meeting with the Twic community at Wunrok Payam.

Last week, President Salva Kiir while in his hometown of AKon, called on chiefs from the Abyei Administrative Area and Twic County to peacefully end almost two years of conflict between them. He further called on the authorities there to ensure the free movement of goods and people from Abyei to the greater Bahr el Ghazal region.

The meeting resolved to demilitarize the contested Anet area of Abyei, ending conflict between youths of both sides and that armed youth return to their home areas.

“The governor held a meeting with the community of Twic county in Wunrok Payam and it aimed to deliver peace messages that President Kiir called for,” William Wol Mayom, Warrap State information minister told Radio Tamazuj Friday.

“Governor Manhiem met the Wunrok community and told them to cease hostilities along the Twic-Abyei borders and allow free movement of goods from Sudan via Abyei to the rest of the big towns in Bahr el Ghazal region,” he added.

Wol said the two communities have agreed to meet and further discuss how to enhance peaceful relations next month in Wau, Western Bahr el Ghazal State.

Minister Wol revealed that the governor is expected to conduct another peace rally in Turalei, the county’s headquarters on Friday.

Meanwhile, Jacob Madhel Leng, Twic County Paramount Chief said all the county chiefs have resolved that a buffer zone is created as they seek peaceful means to end their conflict.
