Warrap state Gvernor Nyandeng Malek has downplayed unrest over the three-year extension of her term of office.
Speaking to journalists after her arrival in Juba International Airport, Nyandeng said there were no big disagreements but some differing opinions which were democratically resolved in the state legislative assembly.
She denied that her visit to Juba is related to the political tension in her state.
Warrap state has witnessed controversy including youth protests over the constitutionality of the extension of Nyandeng’s term as governor.
Meanwhile, the SPLM secretary general for Warrap, Makuc Makuc, has said that two youth members of the party have been illegally arrested on the directive of governor Nyandeng.
Makuc said Mawar Deng Wol and Lual Ater Dut were arrested on Wednesday without a warrant. “Until now we do not have any clear information about their arrest,” he said.
Ajiek Yai Ajiek, an executive member of Warrap state youth opposed to the administration of governor Malek claimed two members of their group were collected on the directive of the state governor and implemented by the deputy Kuacjok town mayor, Joseph Anei Mador.
“We will not accept anybody to colonize us again after fighting and voting to live in a free and independent country for which many of our people sacrificed their lives in order for us to be free from any form of mistreatment,” said Ajiek. “This behavior cannot be tolerated.”
Food and security
Separately, Nyandeng told reporters at the airport that there is a security problem in the border between Gogrial east and west counties which has been contained. The governor also confirmed there is a hunger crisis in different parts of the state due to lack of food.
