Warrap State Governor Lt Gen Francis Marial Abur has banned the mobile sale and buying of livestock to control illegal transactions.
Abur said cattle theft and related crimes were on the rise, leading to communal violence in the state, hence the need for the commissioners to set sites for auctions.
“The order is the establishment of common sites for livestock auction to discourage cattle theft,” he said.
Warrap State Information Minister William Wol Mayom on Friday said it had been proven that the illegal sale of cattle caused insecurity.
Tonj South County Commissioner Marco Agor Malang said the order would reduce conflicts between the communities of Warrap State and their neighbors.
“We have received the directive from the Governor, which we support in order to reduce crimes as proposed by previous governor’s documents to the payam administrators,” he said.
“They are going to identify suitable places for the auctions because right now we have only two; one in Thiet and another one at the headquarters for Tonj South,” he said.
“It is important because it will enhance security,” Malang added.
