Warrap deputy governor takes oath of office after appointment

Makuac filled the position which became vacant after president Salva Kiir in August appointed Deputy Governor Akech to replace Nyandeng Malek whom he ousted from her position.

State officials and members of parliament who attended the swearing-in ceremony presided over by the caretaker governor himself said the deputy governor has expressed sincere thanks for his appointment and pledged willingness to working with all groups in the state, including parliament.

The deputy governor, according to the sources who attended the event, called for cooperation with the communities and authorities in neigbouring states of Lakes and Unity in the provision of security related information to support effective border patrol operations on both sides of the border.

He also asked for intelligence cooperation to interdict the cross-border movement of suspected criminals. “We must work together as one unit under one command to create an environment of peace, stability and peaceful coexistence,” he said.

“I know we can achieve peace and maintain peace. But I also must emphasize that participation of our communities in providing information to our security personnel is paramount. This is the area where we need maximum cooperation with everybody in this state,” Deputy Governor Makuac reportedly told the audience after taking the oath of office in Kuacjok on Monday.
