The government of Warrap State on Saturday denounced the killing of four civilians including a chief at Ajak Kuach area in Twic County last Thursday.

Deng Tong Gosh, Twic County Commissioner, told Radio Tamazuj on Saturday that four people were killed while going to check their fishing nets at a nearby river.

“One morning they decided to go to the river bank to check their fishing nets but unfortunately before reaching the river the attackers attacked them and shot three people dead on the spot and wounded the leader at the back and was taken to hospital and died immediately,” he said.

Tong accused youth from Tam village in Mayom County of Unity State of being responsible, saying there was a similar attack by the same youth in February at Biembil village in Ajak Kuach.

"This is the first attack in Biemakaat but in the last three months when I was still in Juba, such an incident happened in a place called BiemBil, and the perpetrators are believed to be members of Unity State," he added.

Warrap state minister of information Riing Deng who is also double as the government spokesperson said the recent attack in AjaK Kuach has led to the deterioration of security in the area. Nothing was stolen during the attack.

Deng said that no displacement took place following the recent killings and urged the people to be calm as the states' authorities intervene.

“The state government of Warrap condemns the killing of 4 persons including the chief in its strongest term possible. It is unacceptable and as the government of Warrap State, we pass our condolences to the bereaved families. We call upon the government of the Unity State as counterparts to search and arrest the culprits and bring them to the book," he said.

Minister Deng urged the people of Twic County, especially residents of Biemakaat, to remain calm as the two governments of Warrap and Unity states handle the matter.

Due to the poor communication network in Mayom County, Radio Tamazuj could not reach authorities there for comment.
