Authorities in Warrap State on Friday declared three days of mourning following the death of former deputy minister of interior, General Salva Mathok Gengdit.

Authorities in Warrap State on Friday declared three days of mourning following the death of former deputy minister of interior, General Salva Mathok Gengdit.

In a statement, the State Minister of Information, William Wol Mayom, said the period of mourning started on Friday and will end Sunday evening, during which flags in the state will fly at half-mast.

“The state government has declared three days mourning for the unfortunate death of the former caretaker governor of Warrap state, and the condolences have been issued out by the government of Warrap state under the leadership of Brigadier General Governor Manhiem Bol Malek,” Mayom said.

Mayom pointed out that the family and the national government are handling the arrangements for the funeral and burial.

“When the government declared the mourning doesn’t mean that the funeral takes place in Warrap, but where the body will be buried is upon the family and the national government,” he said.

Mayom also mentioned that the state government is yet to confirm when the body will arrive in the country since it is still outside the country.

Mathok, a war veteran from Warrap State, died while receiving treatment in Thailand on Monday.

He was also a member of parliament representing Warrap State on the ticket of the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM).
