Inhabitants of the border areas between South Kordofan and East Darfur are fearing the possibility of a fresh confrontation between the Rizeigat and Misseriya tribes.
Tribal leaders have reportedly asked armed Misseriya herders to leave a Rizeigat-claimed area called Korkorey.
“The Misseriya entered from their territory into the Rizeigat territory,” a citizen said from al-Daein, a city in the Rizeigat homeland in East Darfur. “That place is called Korkorey.”
The herders from South Kordofan have refused to leave the area. Their presence there portends confrontations, according to the source.
In an interview aired in part on Saturday, the Rizeigat citizen called on Misseriya leaders and the commissioner of Meiram in particular to initiate an immediate withdrawal from the region.
He recalled that clashes during the last month of Ramadan resulted in the death and injury of dozens of from both sides.
