More than 90,000 displaced people who fled clashes between government and opposition forces in Wau are facing shortages of food, according to Relief and Rehabilitation Commission in Wau.

Yunis Filberto, Director of Relief and Rehabilitation Commission in Wau, said they have registered 96,000 people who were forced to flee their homes in Bagari in Wau during clashes between government and opposition forces.

He pointed out that those displaced people are living in dire condition amid shortages of food.

Filberto added that International Organization for Migration (IOM) and WFP have distributed some food assistance to the affected people.

“The humanitarian situation in the state is dire and everyone needs food. Those who affected are the most people in need because they have nothing and if we did not assist them the situation will deteriorate further and they will die,” said Filberto.

Filberto stressed that it’s important the warring parties in South Sudan implement the peace agreement so that the people can return to their homes.
